Ben Scofield

Ben Scofield is a longtime Rubyist, writer, and open-source contributor who’s spent his career building and scaling production systems while staying deeply interested in how people actually learn complex skills. In this episode he draws on experience across roles and organizations (including work in the Ruby ecosystem and at companies like GitHub and LivingSocial, plus his more recent time at Bento) to connect skill acquisition research with modern agentic development. Ben’s perspective centers on being explicit about goals, managing context and defaults when using AI coding tools, and rethinking how teams train senior technical leaders as code becomes cheaper to generate than to evaluate and maintain.
